About Me

 I am a mixed media artist and art teacher in my 17th year of teaching, also serving as the A+/Magnet Coordinator for my school. I received my Bachelor of Fines Arts in Studio Art Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and completed my AIG certification from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I am a National Board Certified Teacher and serve as a mentor to new teachers. I am an original teacher leader in the the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Teacher Academy. I am the school representative for the WSFC Arts Council and a board member of the Stokes County Arts Council.

My work has earned me the following recognitions: Gerri D. Howell Educator of the Year from North Carolina A+ Schools in 2016, the Arts Educator of the Year for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Arts Council and the WSFCS Magnet Teacher of the Year in 2016-2017. I also had the pleasure of hosting two solo exhibits of my art and photography in the Apple Gallery of the Stokes County Arts Council. I have received 1st place in the Charles H Stone Memorial Library Photography Contest as well as 2nd place in the Surry County Arts Council Juried Art Exhibit. Annually, my art and photography brings me 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Honorable Mention ribbons at the Stokes County and Carolina Classic Fairs.

Throughout my career, I had the pleasure of attending the National NAEA Conference in Chicago, the National Magnet Schools of America Conference in Los Angeles, numerous NCAEA State Conferences and the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching seminars in Cullowhee and Ocracoke, NC.
